SARFT: Cable DTV Subs Reaches 40 mln

Vice director Wang Lian of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT)'s department of technology said at the China Digital TV Forum 2008 that 33 cities and regions across China had completed DTV conversion projects as of August of this year, bringing the number of digital cable subscribers nationwide to more than 40 mln, expected to increase to more than 45 mln by the end of the year. 155 premium DTV channels are now broadcasting around the country.

Wasu deputy GM Qiao Xiaoyan revealed that as of September 24, Wasu had 412,150 interactive TV subscribers, with an average increase of 600-700 subscribers per day. The company has a monthly ARPU (average revenue per user) of approximately RMB 50.

China's households-using-TV (i.e. HUT) rates are at an approximate average of 30-35% daily, with interactive TV traffic measuring an average of 607,284 instances daily and HUT of 80-85% monthly.

GM Li Degang of Guangxi Cable revealed that Guangxi plans to invest nearly RMB 800 mln over the next 3-5 years into upgrading unidirectional networks in the Beibuwan Economic Development Zone to bidirectional networks.
