It was reported yesterday that the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) had issued a new IPTV license to the Beijing-based company Huaxia Network.
Previously, SARFT had awarded licenses to operators including the Shanghai Media Group (SMG), China Central Television (CCTV), Southern Media Corporation (SMC), China Radio International (CRI), and Hangzhou-based Wasu.
The IPTV license is actually a differently named version of the Permit to Transmit Audiovisual Programming over Data Networks, targeted at different terminals. Currently video-sharing websites have permits for audiovisual programming to be received by computers, while the IPTV license pertains to television reception of programming.
